BOC begins budget review

Items taken out of the budget includes $51,000 in place in the current budget for the salary and benefits for the administrative officer position. This position will not be filled. Cuts were made in other line items, including travel, training and supplies.

“We’re going to have to roll up our sleeves and cut,” commissioner Rickey Cain said.

The budget talks were to continue in another called meeting set for April 21. Results from this meeting will be in next week’s issue.

ACTION ITEMS

In other business, the BOC:

•agreed to apply for a GEFA loan for improvements to the water system. Rindt McDuff engineers are overseeing this project for the county.

•agreed to seek stimulus money from the department of transportation to purchase radio equipment, software and a shuttle van for the county’s public transportation program.
