A South Carolina man was arrested on drug charges Tuesday afternoon, May 5, following a traffic stop by a Banks County Sheriff’s Office deputy.
Banks County Sheriff Charles Chapman said a BCSO deputy stopped a 1999 Pontiac driven by Roscoe Emil White, 27, 310 Carr Road, Piedmont, S.C., for weaving over the roadway.
The deputy had White out of the vehicle but he then got back in the car and tried to leave, Chapman said.
The deputy was able to retrieve the car keys to prevent him from leaving and then the driver fled into the woods on foot, Chapman said. White was apprehended behind a local motel in the Banks Crossing area.
JoJo, the BCSO K-9, alerted on the vehicle and a search of the vehicle was conducted. Officers seized 4.4 grams of suspected crack cocaine, which was packaged for sale, along with a digital scale.
A loaded 45 semi-automatic handgun stolen out of Greenville, S.C., was also recovered.
White was charged with possession of crack cocaine with the intent to distribute, theft by receiving stolen property, obstructing or hindering law enforcement officers and possession of an open container of alcohol.
Chapman said White was on active parole at the time of his arrest.
White was booked into the Banks County jail on these charges. The investigation continues by the BCSO criminal investigation division narcotics agents, Chapman said.
