I’ve always loved a good conspiracy theory.
One of my favorite radio shows in fact is the overnight talk show “Coast to Coast AM” which on any given night features topics ranging from UFOs, bigfoot, the true story of 9-11, the JFK assassination, colonies on the moon and the like. It’s the perfect show to air in the early morning hours, I’ve always said.
However, there is one conspiracy theory going that is simply too far fetched for even me to give any amount of credence too. I thought this conspiracy had all but gone away but apparently there are some who are doing everything they can to keep it alive.
It seems some on the lunatic fringe of the right wing are still trying to convince us that President Obama is not qualified to hold the office he currently occupies. You see, these people want us to believe the president may have been born in what is now Kenya (Africa) rather than Hawaii as he claims. This, of course, would disqualify him from being president.
Being active in politics, I receive all sorts of unsolicited items through the mail but the one which arrived from a group called United States Justice Foundation shows that some people will believe anything and cling to the desperate hope of removing President Obama from office.
(Don’t’ get me wrong. I didn’t vote for Obama last November — my ballot was cast for Bob Barr. However, Obama was elected legitimately and has been a 100 percent improvement on the previous failed administration of George Bush and Dick Cheney, who both deserve to be prosecuted for their role in illegal torture tactics. This is an administration that history will tell us was among the worst our nation has ever had.)
Yet, as a resident of Georgia (or am I?) the United States Justice Foundation wants me to contact our state’s attorney general Thurbert Baker to investigate whether Obama falsified presidential nomination papers here in the Peach state, by signing them while knowing he was constitutionally ineligible to run for President.
Perhaps as laughable as the notion that President Obama was not born in the United States (a claim that even right-wing talk show hosts say is NOT true), is the section of the letter I received asking for a donation to help the cause. Perhaps this form letter also went to someone outside my income bracket as it had one box to check if you could donate $10,000 to help prove the President was not born where he, and his birth certificate, say.
I thought about sending a reply in the enclosed envelope (you would think if one donated $5,000 or $10,000 then you wouldn’t have to provide the stamp) asking the group if it knew just how out there it sounded with this lame brain theory. However, I did what most people did with it I imagine and that is tossed it in the file under my desk which is cleaned out every week.
There’s nothing wrong with having belief in conspiracy theories. However, there has to be some evidence to do so. For some to continue to hold onto the belief that President Obama was born in Africa is as far out there as the moon being made of cheese or me being mistaken for a body builder.

And as far as illegal torture tactics...what was illegal, and how can you prosecute the president as a war criminal for those tactics when they were well within methods, rules, and precedent established before you were born. Again Mr. Bridges you are so out of touch with reality you probably think that the US government will do a good job making our cars next year and that Obama's socialist agenda and decisions are going to lead to better times for you. But think about this....who owns the press in a socialist nation....not the public....but then again you seem to enjoy pandering to the nuts in charge right now.
This is an old (you're months behind) story that needs to die. Let it.
