Banks County has received federal stimulus funds for a road improvement project.
Banks County will receive $759,446 to resurface five miles of State Route 164 from State Route 51 to State Route 59. The contract for this project was awarded to C.W. Matthews Contracting Company, Marietta. Construction is expected to begin within the next month.
Other counties to receive stimulus money for road projects were Madison, Greene, Putnam, Habersham, Franklin and Towns. The projects are among hundreds to be awarded in coming months to create and sustain jobs through the state.
The money is provided by the Georgia Department of Transportation through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
