Qualifying will be held this summer for town elections slated for November. The general election for council seats up for grabs in Maysville, Homer, Lula, Baldwin, Alto and Gillsville will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
MAYSVILLE
In Maysville, the council positions for Ward 1 and Ward 3 will be on the ballot. The Ward 1 council position is currently held by Clay Dorsey. Rebecca McNeeley currently holds the position of council Ward 3.
The qualifying fee for each council seat is $30. Qualifying will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily on Monday, Aug. 31, through Wednesday, Sept. 2, at city hall.
HOMER
In Homer, the election will be held to fill the seat of mayor and five council seats. Doug Cheek currently serves as mayor, and the council seats are now held by Sandra Garrison, Betty Borders, Jerry Payne, Kevin Cape and Chris Tucker.
The qualifying fee for the mayor’s position is $35 and $12.60 for each council seat. Qualifying will be held from 8:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 31, Tuesday, Sept. 1, and Thursday, Sept. 3; from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2; and from 8:30 to noon on Friday, Sept. 4, at city hall.
LULA
In Lula, the mayor and two council positions will be on the ballot. Milton Turner currently holds the mayor’s position, the district 2 council position is currently held by Vicky Chambers and Mordecai Wilson holds the district 3 council position.
The qualifying fee for mayor is $144 and $36 for each council position. Qualifying will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily on Monday, Aug. 31, through Wednesday, Sept. 2, at city hall.
BALDWIN
The City of Baldwin will hold its election to fill the seat of mayor and council seat post 4 and post 5. Mike Kelley currently holds the position of mayor and Ray Holcomb and Robert Bohannon hold the respective council seats.
The qualifying fee for mayor and each council seat is $35. Qualifying for these positions will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily Monday, Aug. 31, through Wednesday, Sept. 2, at city hall.
ALTO
Three council positions will be on the ballot in Alto in November. Council seat Post 1, currently held by Cathy Armour; council seat Post 3, held by Margaret Beaupre; and council seat Post 5, held by Gary Terrell are up for election.
The qualifying fee for each council seat is $36. Qualifying will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily Monday, Aug. 31, through Wednesday, Sept. 2, in the probate court office at the Habersham County Courthouse, Clarkesville.
GILLSVILLE
The City of Gillsville will hold an election to fill the seats of mayor and council Post 1 and Post 2, currently held by Larry Poole, Roy Turpin and Tim House respectively.
The qualifying fee is $18 for the mayor’s position and $9 for each council seat. Qualifying will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 31, through Wednesday, Sept. 2, except for a one hour lunch break beginning at 1 p.m. each day, at city hall, 6288 Highway 52, Gillsville.
