The Banks County Development Authority is looking at ways to attract new business to the county and possibly hiring a part-time person to oversee this effort is one of the options being discussed.
The Development Authority discussed at a meeting Thursday creating an economic development fund agreement with the board of commissioners. This agreement would give the Development Authority power to budget funds for the purpose of attracting businesses to the county.
Part of those funds could be spent for a hiring a coordinator, who would work on a performance-based contract. Part of the coordinator’s job would be to actively attract businesses to the area.
After a lengthy discussion on the advantages and disadvantages of an economic development fund agreement, the matter was tabled until the next meeting.
OTHER BUSINESS
In other business at the meeting, the authority:
•met in closed session for 15 minutes to discuss a land purchase. No action was taken when the meeting was opened.
•discussed the Pottery property at Banks Crossing, which has been sold. Further details of the planned development at the site have not been given.
•discussed new business coming into the area, including Blimpie, Five Guys and Krispy Kreme Doughnuts.
