Sewage spill reported in Lula

Another sewage spill has been reported in the City of Lula. On Wednesday, May 11, the City of Lula reported a raw sewage spill at the McLeod at Hood Street Pump Station location. City officials estimated 1,600 gallons of raw sewage was spilled.

Based upon the initial review of the pump station failure, it appears that significant rainfall resulted in overloading the transmission lines and current pump capacity, leaders state. The city’s evaluation of the spill is ongoing.

The property has been posted and the incident has been reported to Hall County Environmental and the Georgia Environmental Protection Division, as is the procedure for minor spills.

The city continues to monitor the condition and the pump station’s performance and city crews were on site Wednesday morning to clean up the spill.

This pump station is slated for full replacement with construction under way as of Oct. 26.
