The Banks County Planning Commission received some support from a Banks County resident Tuesday night. County resident Melinda Cochran told the Banks County Board of Commissioners she hoped the BOC would not abolish the planning commission as has been discussed.
County attorney Randall Frost reported at the planning commission meeting last week that the BOC had asked him to create an ordinance that would call for all zoning requests to go directly to the BOC instead of to the planning commission.
In addressing the commissioners on Tuesday, Cochran said, “Why would you want to abolish the planning commission?”
Cochran said she worked on the last Banks County comprehensive plan update and some of the things included in the plan could be handled by the planning commission.
Commissioner Charles Turk said he was not aware this was being planned, saying he was just as surprised as Cochran about the issue.
BOC chairman Milton Dalton and the other three commissioners did not respond to Cochran at all.
“I just hope that you don’t abolish this group,” Cochran said.
