It may not feel like it outside, but spring is here and that means the Banks County Diamond Leopards are back on the field.
The boys blew the dust off their gloves last Friday in a scrimmage against East Hall at Leopard Field. The friendly game was decisively in Banks’ favor 7-2.
While coach Joe Lord and players were set to start on Monday in the season opener against West Hall, morning showers delayed the game until Tuesday night. Results from the Tuesday night game were unavailable at press time.
Not wasting anytime, the Leopards are back on the field today (Wednesday) hosting Elbert County at 5:30 p.m.
On Friday the Diamond Leopards round out the first set of home games, hosting the rival Commerce Tigers. The Tigers were set to begin their season on Monday against Jefferson, but were delayed by the rain as well. Friday’s game will be the first game of the season for Commerce. Opening pitch is set for 5:30 p.m. in Homer.
Banks County will start on the road next Monday, facing the Commerce Tigers again. The back-to-back rival games should give the Leopards a chance to prove what they’ve got before getting into region play. Monday game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Tiger Field.
For results from the scrimmage, see the Feb. 24 edition of The Banks County News.
