The Banks County’s Community-Wide Health and Fitness Celebration is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 17, at the Banks County Recreation Center.
The event is being held to celebrate National County Government Month (NCGM) during the month of April to highlight essential county government healthcare and public safety services and programs.
The national theme for the celebration is “Healthy Counties.” Banks County has gone a step further and created an on-going campaign of “Striving for a Better Banks.”
The following Banks County agencies plan to participate: Fire/EMS, E-911, Emergency Management Association (EMA), health department, high school health occupation class, planning and zoning department, board of commissioners, department of family and children services, JoJo the drug dog, Cooter the search and rescue dog, school sports teams, school cheerleaders, sheriff’s office, Resource Association, 4-H Club, Georgia State Patrol car seat program, mobile support team, Safety for Children program, Keep Banks Beautiful, Imagination Library, public library, Family Connections, Peace Place, American Red Cross, Taking Off Pounds Successfully (TOPS), National Weather Service, Life Flight, Census Bureau, Chestatee Chattahoochee RC&D, Masons, BJC Medical Center and Northeast Georgia Heart Center.
There will be a blood drive, free health information, demonstrations, screenings, public safety information and demonstrations, gardening and environmental information and demonstrations, contests, give-aways, food, music and balloons for the kids. A pinwheel ceremony will be held in observance of National Child Abuse Month.
Thompson Street will not be closed during the event. Parking for the event will be available at the Banks County Senior Center, health department and ball fields.
