Banks County commissioner Joe Barefoot has announced that he will not seek re-election for a second term in office.
“After much thought and reflection, I have decided that I will not be a candidate for re-election to a new term in my current office,” he said. “I will be retiring in June and I am evaluating other opportunities that have become available to me.”
Barefoot said he has been “very proud to serve the past three years as the commissioner for what is now Banks County’s 3rd Commission District.
“During my years in office, I have been greatly rewarded by the opportunities I have had to help Banks County move forward in facing the challenges of both good and bad times. I have had the privilege of meeting and making new friends with many people around the county. I hope to continue these relationships even after I leave this office. I am committed to serving out my full term in this office through the end of this year. Thank you all for giving me the opportunity to serve the citizens of Banks County.”
Barefoot plans to continue to write periodic newspaper columns for the remainder of his term.
