Five qualify for BOC; four for BOE

In the Post 1 county board of commissioner race, incumbent Rickey Cain, Sam Moon and Danny Maxwell qualified.

In the Post 3 county board of commissioner race, Sammy Reece and Keith Segars qualified. Incumbent Joe Barefoot has announced that he will not seek re-election.

In the Post 3 board of education race, Michael Boyle and Bradley Ledford qualified. Incumbent Ben Ramsey is not seeking re-election.

In the Post 5 board of education race, Jason Hensley and Shane Roberts qualified. Incumbent Herbert “Bo” Garrison is not seeking re-election.

STATE RACES

In the State Senate District 50 race, incumbent Jim Butterworth, Cornelia, (R) and Terry Rogers, Clarkesville, both Republicans, qualified.

In the District 28 seat in the Georgia House of Representatives, incumbent Michael Harden, Toccoa, (R) and Christopher James Irvin, Toccoa, (D) qualified.

U.S. senator Johnny Isakson is up for re-election, as is District 10 U.S. Congressman Paul Broun. Broun (R) and challenger Russell Edwards (D) qualified for the District 10 seat. As for the senate race, Isakson (R) and challengers R.J. Hadley and Mike Thurmond, both Democrats, qualified.

At the state level, voters will decide elections for both governor and lt. governor this year. Other state elections include secretary of state, attorney general, state school superintendent, state agriculture commissioner, state insurance commissioner and state labor commissioner.
