Lula post office named in honor of solider

Millican was killed in combat in Karbala, Iraq, January 2007.

Congressman Nathan Deal sponsored the re-designation bill, and spoke at the ceremony. Deal said that the life of Millican was a culmination of efforts of all the people and that Millican was someone who probably never thought he would be regarded as a hero.

“He did what he thought was expected of him and his place in the history of this great country,” said Deal.
“Tomorrow, we will recognize the foundation of our country … and through the generations that have followed … men and women have stepped forward to defend the freedoms that we had as the foundation of our country. Johnathon was a part of a team that is still in that ongoing pursuit of liberty and freedom.”

The ceremony included the official unveiling of the new signs marking the post office and the presentation of the Silver Star to Likens. The Silver Star is awarded for gallantry in action against an enemy of the United States.
The ceremony concluded with a three-volley salute and the playing of Taps by the Hall County Honor Guard.
