I visited the Myrtle Beach website for a list of suggested activities. Then, I began to map our list of activities. First, I chose Myrtle Waves Water Park. I could stay there all day and then some. It is located on 20 acres and provides all types of rides for the daring to the less adventurous.
The water slides are thrilling with twists and turns. My son and husband were daring and rode all of them. Meanwhile, my younger son and I played at Bubble Bay and the Saturation Station. These two areas were designed with toddlers in mind. It was lots of fun for my 2-year-old son. The station's main attraction is its 700-gallon volcano that soaks guests every six to eight minutes.
The Ocean in Motion Wave Pool is so inviting. This was my favorite. It is like the beach without all of the sand. I would like one in my backyard! We all enjoyed the wave pool. The lifeguards there are wonderful and are constantly walking and watching. I don’t think I ever saw one sit down.
There are lockers and showers and changing facilities available. There is so much this place has to offer, you must visit while you are in Myrtle Beach.
RIPLEY’S AQUARIUM
Next on our list was the Ripley’s Aquarium. There is something so calming about the sight and sound of water. As you walk through the facility, it is common to see adults just sitting and watching while young ones have their faces pressed against the glass trying their best to communicate with the “fishees.”
The aquarium is such a unique, educational experience. It is also a must when visiting Myrtle Beach. There is such a variety of aquatic life with information on each. One of our favorites was the tunnel. You are moved through a huge tank on a glide path and are surrounded on all sides with 12-foot sharks swimming overhead. This definitely has the WOW factor.
Another favorite was the sting ray tank. You can lean over the rocks and pet sting rays. Some even come up for a kiss. I had the death grip on my son as he was so amazed he almost jumped in to hug one.
AMUSEMENT PARK
We also visited Family Kingdom Amusement Park. If you want to experience an old time amusement park, this is the place to visit. They have 30 rides, including a wooden roller coaster, ferris wheel with views of the ocean, log flume, bumper cars and all of the old favorites. There is also the oceanfront water park just across the street. The amusement park is open from 4-12 p.m. The water park is open from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. It is a wonderful way to spend an evening with the family.
PUTT PUTT
Vacation is not complete until you play putt putt. We chose to play at Hawaiian Village Golf. It is beautifully landscaped to recreate the Hawaiian Islands. It has two 18 hole courses which are both challenging. After playing a round of miniature golf, you can cool down in the game room. We all played, even my two year old son, and had a great time.
We had a great time in Myrtle Beach, S.C. We made lots of wonderful memories together. It is definitely a place to take the family. There are so many options of things to do. We only had time to scratch the surface! We look forward to visiting again soon.
