The Christmas season will officially arrive in Banks County this weekend with several holiday events planned to celebrate this special time of year.
In Baldwin, the annual tree lighting will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 2, at the city park next to the police department. A group of Girl Scouts from Banks County and the Habersham Central High School Choral Group will be performing at the event. The rain date for the event is 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 7.
The Banks County Chamber of Commerce’s annual Christmas Bazaar/Festival is set for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 3 and 4. Crafts, food, fun and games will be available both days at the Historic Courthouse in downtown Homer. A parade, featuring Santa, is planned at noon on Saturday. In Lula, the annual Christmas in the Park celebration is set for 4-6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4. Several local businesses have already agreed to participate as well as area churches. The mayor and council encourages the community to attend the free event.
The City of Homer will sponsor its annual Christmas Celebration at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 5, at the historic courthouse. Area church choirs will perform.
Other events planned this Christmas season include the following:
•The Maysville Community Improvement Club will hold its annual Christmas in the Park on Saturday, Dec. 11. The event will feature craft and food vendors, entertainment and s’mores. The Christmas festival will also include a parade at 5 p.m. Anyone who would like to have a float is asked to line up on Freeman Street. Santa will be at the park from 6-8 p.m. for the kids to visit. •The Alto Congregational Holiness Church Youth Group will have a live nativity at Alto City Hall on Sunday, Dec. 19.
