The Banks County Sheriff’s Office shut down a business Monday after an undercover officer allegedly purchased an illegal drug. Sam’s Food Mart at Banks Crossing was closed after an undercover officer purchased a “smoking tobacco which has been categorized as a schedule 1 narcotic,” which is illegal in the state of Georgia and is a felony,” according to Banks County Sheriff Charles Chapman. The business is located at 30581 Hwy. 441 South.
The sheriff said this drug “is sold as a fake marijuana.”
“Upon executing the search warrant, officers seized several packs of the illegal substance, pipes and scales,” the sheriff said. “Officers also seized around $4,000 in United States currency.”
The sheriff’s office pulled the business license and immediately stopped operations at the business. The business license was turned over to the Banks County Board of Commissioners.
The investigation is continuing by the sheriff’s office’s criminal investigation division. No arrests have been made so far.
The Drug Enforcement Administration recently used its emergency powers to ban “fake pot” products, according to news reports. This action came after increasing reports of people with medical problems related to using the drug.
Drugs is drugs what ever name it goes under, fake or real.
