Dancing toy soldiers and bears, a charming elf named Henry, a giant sparkling Christmas tree and thrilling solos, daring duets and the country’s best skaters combine to create a holiday revue that is not to be missed. “The Holiday Ice Spectacular” will be presented at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre through Dec. 24.
The show opens with a holiday medley of songs and snow falling onto the stage and into the first few rows of the theater. The chill in the air, along with the snow falling, set the stage for the winter wonderland to follow.
Brandee Malto and Jered Guzman thrill the audience with an amazing performance to “Baby It’s Cold Outside,” which is one of the highlights of the first act. The precision and control of their performance is a delight to watch.
Another highlight of the first act is “Country Christmas,” which features all of the ensemble in a high-pace performance that shows off the incredible talent of all of the skaters.
Samantha Vonsiatsky, one of the only singing skaters in professional ice productions, showcases both her wonderful vocal talent and amazing skating in “All I Want for Christmas.”
A male solo from Michael Chack to “Jingle Bell Rock” picks up the pace and shows off his amazing skill and precision as a skater.
The first act ends with a special portray of “The Nutcracker” featuring Colleen Maguire and Josiah Modes. It’s a whirlwind look at this classic tale that will leave you smiling at intermission and looking forward to what is coming up in the second act.
“Santa Drives a Hot Rod” featuring Henry and the ensemble is a fun number in the second act that is sure to be a favorite of adults and children alike.
The holiday medley that ends the 90-minute production is a perfect end to the holiday spectacular. It shows the world class skaters and entertainers creating a glittering world of holiday cheer. You’ll see awe-inspiring catches and gravity-defying leaps.
The production is filled with quick-witted humor from Henry, a charming, yet mischievous elf who has decided (against orders) to let the audience experience the wonder of the North Pole. He and his wife, Candy, provide comic relief throughout the show.
Jeb K. Rand, creator of The Holiday Ice Spectacular, is originally from Cobb County and said it was his goal “to create a holiday revue that will redefine year-end traditions for years to come.” He has done just that and a performance of the wonderful production is a must-see.
