Homer’s fire department might be completed better than the original plans called for if the city receives a grant from USDA Rural Development.
The Homer City Council approved submitting an application to the USDA to complete the fire department which was stopped short of final completion of the plans after the Department of Corrections withdrew inmate labor from the city. Labor from inmates completed a large section of the work on the project.

The mayor and city council of Homer should ask Franklin Springs for help in building the towns fire department! Franklin Springs started their municipal building and fire department (two entirely seperate buildings) a year or so after Homer started theirs, Franklin Springs has been in theirs for over a year, Homer's still sit's unoccupied. Maybe the mayor oh Homer can swing by on one of his trips to Franklin County. The Franklin Springs municipal complex is right on Hwy 29 just past the intersection with Ga 51 -
