Out-going BOE members recognized

Ramsey, a 1991 graduate of Banks County High School, has served the BOE for eight years.

Ramsey said, “This (serving on the BOE) definitely has been one of the top 10 things in my life.”

Garrison, a 1975 graduate of BCHS, has served the BOE for 22 years. Garrison started his service to the board in 1988. The BOE had a total budget of $6 million at that time. The budget has grown to a current total of $29 million.

Garrison said, “I have had the privilege to sit here and serve with 12 different people.”

Ramsey and Garrison both expressed to the two newly-elected board members the importance of keeping the safety of the children at the top when decisions are being made.

Garrison went on to say to the board members, “We never leave here (board meetings) with ill feelings.”

Garrison stated that only one administrator and 10 teachers are still serving the school system that were with the system when he first was elected to the BOE.

Each of the four schools presented Ramsey and Garrison with memorabilia in recognition of their service.

Superintendent Chris Erwin presented plaques to Ramsey and Garrison in honor of their service.

Newly-elected board members Michael Boyle and Shane Roberts will replace Ramsey and Garrison on Jan. 1.
