Jim Fuller resigns as fire chief

After almost eight months as fire chief, Jim Fuller has resigned from the position.

Fuller submitted a letter of resignation to Banks County Board of Commission chairman Milton Dalton on April 1 and his last day on the job was Monday. He did not give any details for his resignation.

“First, let me say thank you for the opportunity to serve the citizens of Banks County,” he wrote in the brief letter. “I feel it is time for me to submit my resignation.”

Assistant fire chief Brian Eubanks will serve as interim fire chief until a replacement is named.

Let me guess too many people with there hands in the fire dept again ???
It seems that since Milton has been in office the Fire dept went from bad to worse.
The whole former vs current issue destroyed what was once a great dept.... put the darn thing back they way it was pre Gary Pollard and let's move on already.

Very sad that we have commissioners that have one mission and that is revenge on the fire department. The worst part is that we the citizens of Banks County are the ones that suffer. It is a shame that Banks County Fire Department has become the laughing stock of the state. Until we have commissioners that are truly concerned about the county and not about their own petty vengence we will continue to have issues with the fire department.

Sad ? Seems like this guy resigned himself. We have just as many houses and barns and chicken houses burning down around here now as we did 15 years ago. The only differance is, is that it didnt cost us over 2 million dollars then, it does now. So yes i think our commisisioners do need to get involved. When the state assesments go down on property value, the last thing i want to see them do is go up on milliage rates just to keep county employees. Other counties are cutting back to keep the property owners from paying so much and i think we need to also. Yes i know its bad, but me and several of my family are on fixed incomes and are hurting bad too.

Its pretty bad that the county cant keep a fire chief what number chief are they on now?? i know it has to be at least 4 in the past 3 years!!!!!!!

Oldtimer your right we still have the same amount of fires BUT:
a:The state mandates training and qualifications for firefighters now as well so you just can't "volunteer" anymore.

B.Moving to back to a all Volunteer dept as so many in Banks think would save $ ? No it would not as your ISO ratings would go back up and what you save in tax's your going to pay on insurance.

C.Other counties have all -Volunteer why not us? Check your facts places like Jackson are paying there fireman per call and or there FF pension fund monthly.

This is just another example of too many hands in the cookie jar. Time for a BOC who stops conducting business around the table at Tiny Town or the backroom at Denny's !

I am glad someone in the county gets it. It is unfortunate that some of the citizens are speaking up with out having all the facts. This is a huge part of the problem, too many folks that think they know how too fix the problem yet they don't understand the problem. ITS TIME FOR SOME NEW COMMISSIONERS!!!!

And to the person wondering how many fire chiefs we are on now ~ the answer is FIVE since Pollard. The commissioners want a "yes" man to help carry out their petty vengance. They are not concerned about the safety, health and well being of the citizens, the main concern is finding someone to to help carryout the "agenda".

Party right... They are looking for a YES man, so they hired someone who could not make it past Lieutenant in a real fire department thinking they could control him. He even brought back GW, AK, and some of the other quitters. Then tried to run things like Gwinnett and the quitters started quitting again. The voters that brought one of the quitters to the commission are getting what they deserve, unfortunately the rest of the county is paying for it.

Since Pollard have been Creasy, Taylor, and Fuller - that would be 3, but Taylor was never more that an acting chief, so really there were only 2 since Pollard.

Now that GW, RC, and CT have done the damage to Banks County Fire Department, they are now taking Homer Fire Department in the same direction. When the fire chief there finally figures out what these folks are up to and try to put them in line, will they hold a public walkout there, too?

I agree they are looking for an yes man that is why they have appointed who they have now. He is a yes man and dadddy is coroner. He made capt under Pollards good ole boy system and tats the only way he could get to where he is. Fuller didnt bring GW back he put a policy in place on looking professional and not like a long hair hippy which knocked him out of the department. Now your current appointed Chief has brought back GW. Which falls into Commisioner CT's plan.

Then you have the appointed training officer who we all know is buddies with them all. He could not handle the training position last time at Banks Co and everywhere else he has been.

I do feel sorry for the Chief of homer because what they have done to Banks County Fire they will do to his department as well if they do not continue to get there way.

Taylor was the official Fire Chief and not acting he was officially appointed.

Would like to learm more on the pay decreases mentioned is this fact or more rumors of GW and CT.

The public really should start attending meeting and monitor what goes on with their fire department. If CT has his way and reverts the department back to all volunteer or even running just daytime part time firefighters your ISO rating will increase and what you dont pay in tax increase will be more than made up for when your home owners insurance increases doubling if not tripling

Info that the citizens don't know about yet! I have no connection with anyone within the fire dept! I just keep my ears open and pay attention. So to answer your to your comment NO it has nothing to do with any "mandatory pay cuts" that the community is not aware of, by the way!
So honestly Mr. Fluff which one are you? MILTON, REECE,TURK,ROGERS OR MAXWELL?

ISO What a scare tactic. And yes you can vol. in the fire service, i have two nephews who vol for jackson county and no sir they dont get pay per call and they pay their own pension out of their pockets. They both told me that they had over 300 hours training last year in 2010 and that that was almost 100 hours more then the state requires for a paid person. So if we had that kind of vols here why would our ISO rating go up ? Its not hard to find there are fire depts all around us that are vol that have the same ISO rating we do and their budget isnt as high. I dont know what the problem is in our county fire dept. but I do know we have got the best set of commisioners right now then we have had since Milton Patterson was in office and I trust they will do the best thing for the county.

Those departments have a fire tax set by their independent fire boards as well. This is separate from the county general fund. Banks County does not have this. So, sure it looks like their budget is smaller from the county.

Party Right ? Ok we can tell your age. I live on Sycamore Street right down from the new homer fire station. I read your post about our Homer Fire Dept. And let me tell you something, i have seen more training going on over there and more activity then I have in 30 Years. And hearing my scanner, I hear more people then ever going on the calls in Homer. SO who ever theese people are that you mentioned are helping do this, then I say great, lead our Dept in that direction. Thank you to all of them and thank you to the rest of the Homer Fire Dept. One thought to the commisioners, if you guys cant get the county strightened out, maybe you need to look at contracting with Homer, they apper to be doing a jam up job.

Keep listening to your scanner. All the talk on the radio does sound great. Remember though, when someone has all that time to talk on the radio they aren't doing what needs to be done for the scene. We used to hear every time Batt 3 and Batt 2 had a sideways belch or needed to wipe but nothing was getting done otherwise. Just stick to your scanner and your perfect little world. When your house is on fire I hope your somewhere else listening on your scanner and not there watching the chaos.
