Banks County 5th and 8th Grade students mostly excelled on this year’s CRCT testing, doing well in areas that other schools have struggled with.
The state released system-wide results last week and will release individual school results next month.
Banks County 8th Graders had strongest results in Math where the system was in the top 10 statewide. Banks 8th Graders had a low failure rate of 6.1 percent in Math, far below the state’s average of 22.3 percent.
Eighth graders also did well in Science ranking among the top 20 school systems in the state and in Social Studies where the local failure rates were about half of the state average.
In the 5th Grade, Banks showed dramatic improvement in Math by improving its failure rate from 19.9 percent last year to 6.8 percent this year.

First the high school with awesome GHSGT results, now the middle school does the same in the CRCT. Students, educators, and paraents should all be congratulated. Many folks in the past have come on this website and unfairly criticized the school system or the residents of Banks County. These results should silence these critics and all give us a sense of pride for our school system and community as a whole. Congratulations!

I'm so proud of our students. It's wonderful to see them accomplish so much. And for what I ask? To leave the county just to have a job? Our wonderful school system educated our current leaders and we see what that got us. I would ask in closing, does our 'wonderful' school system teach our children the use of shoes, soap, and dentures? These are wonderful inventions that Banks County has overlooked, todays word of wisdom, Google.

What a terrible post "So Proud indeed". How can anyone be negative in reply to this article? The middle school was top 10 in the state in Math, and top 20 in science. The high school was reported last month by the BCN to be ranked 17th out of nearly 200 systems in percent passing all four portions of the graduation test. These results are outstanding and should be heralded as such. You use the example of the school system educating our current leaders? Most teachers weren't around when our leaders were being educated. (I have no problem whatsoever with our current leaders by the way) I'm not sure what the "shoes, soap and dentures" comment was all about but it reeked of sarcasm and negativity. I was told at an early age there are always people that complain about everything and never want to be happy and I see more and more examples of this everyday. At least your congratulated our fine students and seemed sincere. I say a well-deserved congratulations to the students of Banks County and our school system. "So Proud indeed" you need to do us a favor. If you can't join in the congrats at least quit trying to spread your negativity.

I understand your point, but don't trash the test scores. They are an excellent starting point towards a brigther furture in our sadly underepresented county. YOU HAVE TO START SOMRWHERE.

I have lived here in this county for only 3years and moved here to find a better system than the one in Dekalb County,Ga I have two sons recently graduated now attending the University of Georgia,i also have three daughters that will be attending the middle school...for the record i have been extremely impressed with the Banks County Schools ,their administrators to their teachers to the parents and feel proud to be a part of this system. it deserves nothing less then our continued support. Keep up the good work!!!

Joe-Nothing like the Atlanta situation. I can speak as a Middle School parent when I say, that from the day they walk through the doors on the first day of school, until test week they have the CRCT crammed down their throat by Mr. Cooper! I am proud that the scores are good, but feel like these children are just being taught test answers and nothing more the entire year. There is no test fixing going on here, just a lot of test "training"!

I agree that it seems the kids are taught the entire school year to take the CRCT, but I do not believe it is Mr. Cooper or any other administrators fault. There is so much pressure from the state and federal level to meet certain criteria (No Child Left Behind, AYP etc) that there is not enough time to do anything else.
