Qualifying begins next week for council positions in Alto, Baldwin, Gillsville, Lula and Maysville. The Town of Homer doesn’t have a city election this year.
The city elections will be held from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 8.
ALTO
Qualifying will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. beginning on Monday, Aug. 29, and ending on Friday, Sept. 2, at the Habersham County Probate Office in Clarkesville.
Qualifying is open for the positions of mayor, currently held by Audrey Turner, council post 2, currently held by Loretta Bosco, and council post 4, currently held by Kathy Clark. All of these positions are for four-year terms.
Council post 1 and post 5 positions will also be on the ballot, due to resignations. The persons elected to fill these two posts will serve the remainder of the term through 2013.
All qualifying fees are $35 for each position.
BALDWIN
Qualifying will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day beginning Monday, Aug. 29, and ending on Friday, Sept. 2, at the Office of Elections & Registration, Habersham County Courthouse, 3rd Floor, 555 Monroe Street, Clarkesville.
Qualifying is open for council post 1, currently held by Beverly Holcomb, council post 2, recently vacated by Sandi Rudeseal, and council post 3, currently held by Rodney King.
The council positions will be voted on at-large for four-year terms beginning Jan. 1, 2012 and ending Dec. 31, 2015.
The qualifying fee for the council positions is $35 each.
All qualified candidates are encourage to run, leaders state.
GILLSVILLE
Qualifying will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29, through Wednesday, Aug. 31, except for a one-hour lunch break beginning at 1 p.m. each day at 2285 Browns Bridge Road, Suite 2, Gainesville.
Qualifying is open for council post 3, currently held by Todd Dale, council post 4, currently held by Keith Segars, and council post 5, currently held by Richard Ferguson.
The qualifying fee for the council positions is $9 each.
LULA
Qualifying will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. beginning on Monday, Aug. 29, and ending on Wednesday, Aug. 31, at Lula City Hall, 6055 Main Street, Lula.
Qualifying is open for council post 1, currently held by Larry Shuler, council post 4, currently held by Judah Echols, and council post 5, currently held by Lamb Griffin.
The qualifying fee for each council position is $36.
MAYSVILLE
Qualifying will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. beginning on Monday, Aug. 29, and ending on Wednesday, Aug. 31, in the office of the City Clerk/Election Superintendent, 226 South Main Street, Maysville.
Qualifying is open for the position of Mayor, currently held by Jerry Baker, council ward 1, currently held by Clay Dorsey, council ward 2, currently held by Lynn Villyard, council ward 3 which is vacant, and council ward 4, currently held by Stephan Lewis.
The qualifying fee for mayor is $75 and the qualifying fee for each council position is $30.
The last day to register to vote in the November city election is Tuesday, Oct. 11.
