Presley wins Maysville mayor's race; Alto, Lula incumbents win

Former Maysville mayor Richard Presley will again lead the town after winning in the town election Tuesday, while Alto mayor Audrey Turner was re-elected for another term.

In the Maysville mayor’s race, Presley had 131 votes, while Lynn Villyard had 119 votes and Donna Chesonis had 84 votes.

“It’s a privilege to serve the community again,” Presley said at city hall Tuesday night after the votes were counted. “I look forward to working with everyone and seeing the town prosper.”

In the Ward I city council race, Kathleen Bush won over incumbent Clay Dorsey in a 61-46 vote.

In Ward II, Clyde “Junior” Hardy won over Jerry Parr in a 50-31 vote.

In Ward IV, Scott Harper received 63 votes. Ricky Akins was disqualified because he is not a registered voter.

ALTO

In the Alto mayor’s race, incumbent Audrey Turner won over challenger John Closs in a 28-13 vote.

LULA

In the Lula City Council race, incumbent Larry Shuler won over Veneda Simonelli in a 59-37 vote.

Unbelievable that Maysville elected this guy mayor again. Some people really do live with their heads in the sand.

YEP SOME PEOPLE LIVE WITH THEIR HEAD UP THEIR... BLEEP! AND SOME LIVE WITH THEIR HEADS IN THE SAND ! BUT RICHARD HAS HIS HEAD LOOKING STRAIGHT FORWARD TRYING TO HELP HIS LIFE LONG COMMUNITY IMPROVE IN A POSITIVE WAY. I DO NOT LIVE IN MAYSVILLE BUT HAVE KNOWN THE PRESLEY CLAN FOR OVER THIRTY YEARS AND THEY ARE HARD WORKING PEOPLE WHO WORK THE SOIL. RICHARD DOES CARE FOR HIS FELLOW MAN AND CITY. MAYSVILEE MADE A GOOD CHOICE FOR HONORABLE MAN !!

Could someone advise me if Mr. Pressley was a good Mayor the last time he was in office? Im new to the area and never met him. I wonder if he will get the police department working and making Maysville a safe place for our kids??

With Richard Presley # 2, He was chastised because his PD was very aggressive against crime.

Several ugly rumors surfaced in town spread ... with people who could not do as they pleased.

He was progressive enough to start the water tank project and some other things like sidewalks that Jerry Baker took credit for but the truth is those projects where in the works BEFORE Richard left office.

And #1 your head is somewhere else besides buried in sand if you think Maysville made a mistake, Richard was the clear choice in this election.

Was Richard perfect ? Far from it. Did he make a few mistakes ? Yes But he is a decent human being that cares about his community.

The problem of the matter, is that regardless of which religion you may be, the town should not be run based on the wishes of the church or a couple of small minded people afraid of growth. The council is suppose to represent opinions of all the people of this town whether the council member personally agrees or not.

Please, no more of this holier than thou. Would someone please ask him what really went on with the former police chief and his # 1 sidekick. The truth will come out one day and the only question is: Are you capable of handling the truth?

Ummm the X Chief was told to resign or be fired ... that's common knowledge?

As for his number #1 side kick take your pick The Asst Chief was made Chief by Jerry Baker but make no bones about it he was hired by Ricky A.

As stated lots of "rumors" If you don't have facts and your not willing to speak openly then guess what it's only rumor.

Oh and as far as the whole church thing Jerry was a much more right wing bible thumper then Richard ever will be. ( my opinion but shared but many) The people of Maysvile have spoken at the voting booth and that my friends is why Richard Presley is the Mayor.

Ramble on and on and still beat around the bush. Go back to the years 2003-2004 and get the actual TRUTH straight! By the way-2 of the council will serve 2 year terms, then start a 4 year term.

he just told you the truth 5.1. I was there in 03/04.... Frankly the rumor you talk about was NEVER proven.
Accusing someone doesn't make them guilty and other party left soo you got he said /she said nothing more.

I don't support Richard or Jerry but digging up the whole Police thing shows that a few select can't get over an election loss nor can a former employee let a dead dog lie.

Enough pointing fingers and spreading dirt . Maysville has elected therenew leaders now they have to live with it.

So, is the Chief now in good with Mayor Pressley?? I have seen Maysville Police trying to catch speeders recently or just acting like they are. I still have not seen a Maysville car with blue lights on. I wonder if they have to answer a lot of calls?

I seriously think you are talking about the wrong town. Maysville always has people pulled over. You must not drive through Maysville much.

What I'd like to know is this - why a small puny town like Maysville would even have a police department other than revenue generation! You don't see a police dept in Lula, Homer, Ila, what on earth does Maysville need one for?

over 17 miles per hour are what makes small towns run outside oversight, thats why officers dont lower to under that because revenue under that speed cause oversight problems with the issuing auth for the permit that is issues to run what is commonly called radar
