In a called meeting on Monday, the Banks County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution to allow the county election superintendent to call for a special election to be held on Tuesday, March 6, 2012, to allow the continuation of the one-cent special purpose local option sales tax (SPLOST).
The current SPLOST is set to expire on Sept. 30, 2012, and the tax, if approved by the voters in March, will start Oct. 1, 2012.
Revenue is projected at $14.4 million, with the money to be used for projects in the county, as well as in Maysville, Gillsville, Lula, Alto, Baldwin and Homer.

Time to call out or reckless spending commissioners and departments. Vote NO! Time to bring businesses in instead of just taxing the residents more. These projects would be funded if the BOC would be a little friendly toward new businesses looking to relocate to the area.

A waste of time nay sayers. The sheeple of Banks County who enjoy driving 20 miles for a head of cabbage will willingly vote yes to build more government buildings (for the people), schools (for the 'children') and buy new crown vic's for the leaders. Yes voters or no you need to remember there's another penny tax vote coming n July that Banks County will not have a say in approving since you'll be voting with Toccoa/Gainesville/and much larger towns. What will you get? A street improvement in Homer and a 1/4 mile street at Banks Crossing taking shoppers to Jackson County!! Give government time and you'll be paying your property tax/income tax/and not 7% tax but rather 9%.
