Rudese Hooper was sworn in to the Gillsville City Council at the March 6 meeting.
Hooper fills the vacant seat previously held by Richard Ferguson.
In other business at the monthly meeting:
•Mayor Larry Poole reported that the renters of the two city-owned buildings are working through parking issues at the rear of the buildings. Poole said the council would probably be asked to rezone the property or issue a variance on it. Councilman Roy Turpin said the owner of Jeannie’s Restaurant, one of the businesses in the city’s downtown buildings, wants to have the property at the rear of the buildings rezoned. Councilman Keith Segars said, “Don’t’ we have a zoning board to take a look at this?” The council agreed there was a zoning board, but they couldn’t remember who was on such board. Poole said the city and the business owner would have to come to terms on the amount to lease the property for parking. “The first figure that was thrown out, there was no way we could commit the city to that,” Poole said. Poole advised the council that he would check the minutes of the council meetings to see who is on the city’s zoning board.
