Two Banks County High School students died during the past two days, one following a car wreck and another after a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Courtney Alicia Phagan, 18, Maysville, died Friday after being injured in a wreck that happened at 2:43 p.m. Aug. 18 on Georgia Highway 11 (U.S. Highway 129) 0.5 miles north of W.J. Dills Road near Jefferson. W.J. Dills Road is located between Interstate 85 and U.S. 129 Business.
Phagan was traveling south in the left lane on Hwy. 11 when her vehicle left the roadway going off the left shoulder, and Phagan overcorrected. The vehicle began to turn clockwise and overturn. The vehicle came to rest upright in the median of the four-lane, divided highway. Phagan was ejected from the vehicle as it overturned.
Phagan suffered severe head injuries.
Memorial Park Funeral Home, Gainesville, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
In the other death, a 15-year-old Lula boy died Saturday after shooting himself in a bathroom at Banks County High School early Friday morning. According to authorities, the student died early Saturday morning.

These two passings are just the saddest thing. I'm not sure I could, but I just hope that somewhere down the road, both families are able to find some peace and acceptance with what has happened. My thoughts will be with them for a long time.
