The Banks County Board of Tax Assessors received word at the monthly meeting that tax bills should be going out later this month.
Chief appraiser Kevin Whitman advised the board that the 2012 tax digest was submitted on Oct. 5 and approved. “Tax bills should go out on Oct. 20,” Whitman said.
Whitman estimated the decrease in the tax digest from last year to be between 1 ½ and 3 percent.

My tax bill came today. I no longer need a proctologist. Banks BOE, meet me at the courthouse and I'll just go ahead and sign over the deed.

Wow - do our tax dollars not pay the sheriff's department enough to equip their units with fingerprint kits? I was burglarized over the weekend and when I called it in reported it as a burglary. They sent a deputy with no fingerprint kit and no investigator has shown up yet. Last time this happened they were given a photo of the person and nothing happened then either. Why are we paying them for a job they are not doing?

We got our tax bill today. wow!!!! Our tax bill increased by $1300.00 this year. What about yours? Something needs to be done. Now and soon!! What happened to our decrease? What happened to the reassessments? This was suppose to lower our taxes. So much for reappealing.

Got my tax bill today too. Up almost $1500 and no improvements in 3 years. To make matters worse, it's due December 20 - just in time to spoil Christmas.

That school board increase is what happened. I guess they feel like they need to keep up with the Joneses (and the Gwinnetts) by having a lot of top-heavy, central office admin people with six-figure salaries.

Well, Banks County votes have put these (beep)in office! And to my shock, keep putting them in. When will you wake up and put some people in that won't be a Erwin Yes man? After you lose your homes it's to late. RECALL them if nothing is done in January!

Unbelievable - I just got my tax bill too. I just refinanced so I had to have a "real" appraisal completed. My home/property value has dropped $24,000 more. YET my taxes increased $600. What's up with this??? Tax appraisers office should be flooded with appeals!!!

be careful on those appeals too. i tried that 3-4 years ago and the appeal was denied. that put me having to pay fees and other charges that amounted to well over the difference in amount that i was appealing.
