A Lavonia woman was killed in a two-vehicle accident in Banks County on Wednesday evening around 6 p.m. According to the Georgia State Patrol report, Joy Renee Lewallen, 51, was a passenger in a 2002 Chevrolet Prizm that pulled into the path of a 1997 Acura and was hit in the passenger side. The accident occurred at Old Highway 441 North and Highway 15/441 near Homer. The driver of the Prizm, Timothy Stephens, 48, Gainesville, has been charged with failing to yield at an intersection. The driver of the Acura was Angela An Nguyen, 17, Baldwin.
Stephens was taken to Northridge Medical Center, Commerce, for treatment of his injuries and Nguyen was checked at the scene.
