The Banks County Sheriff’s Office arrested 14 people on drug charges this week after executing four search warrants.
The Banks County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Georgia State Patrol and their aviation unit, along with officers from Pardons and Parole and officers from the Georgia Department of Probation, conducted an early morning operation Monday where four search warrants were executed. Four teams of officers spread out across the county to make the arrests, as a helicopter flew overhead. Officers seized drugs, guns and U.S. currency during this operation. Twelve arrests were made at that time, with three more being arrested later.
Search warrants were executed at 210 Woodland Street, Homer; 5509 Highway 51 South, Lula; 257 Highway 98, Homer; and on a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado Pickup, chief deputy Shawn Wilson reported.
Sheriff Carlton Speed said, “This is just a small step in our first days in office to demonstrate to the citizens of Banks County that we are committed to the fight against illegal drugs within Banks County.”

Think it's great that the booking photos of those arrested were used in some newspapers and online news sites. I haven't seen it myself, but I heard that there are YouTube videos of the arrests too. Not sure where those would have come from though.

I commend the DEPUTIES of the Banks County Sheriff's Office. I however feel that the intelligence of the citizens of Banks County is being insulted by the new Sheriff and his administration. Are we to believe that these arrests are all the marackulous work of Mr. Speed. Citizens do your homework, most of these individuals have been arrested time and time again for similar offenses. The court system has slapped them on the wrists and turned them back onto the street to repeat their crimes. At least one of the arrested worked for Banks County and was arrested before for drug related charges. The courts dropped the charges and he never missed a days work. I know Mr. Speeds needs and loves publicity, but get real Banks County. Our deputies have always done a fine job and never needed their every move published for public acceptance. Seems like Mr. Speed's only motivation is an "At a Boy" and a slap on the back. I think a true leader gets the job done without self gratification. Looks like our Sheriff is made in the image of our President. Mr. Speed strive for an excellent Sheriff's Office not your own legacy.

Amen Concerned Citizen. These repeat criminals are probably back on the street again. I have lived in Banks County my entire life and have not seen that big a problem as Mr. Speed makes it out to be. Maybe the reporters are the ones making a big deal out of it. Anyway give the so called little people a "At a Boy".

Congrats Sheriff Speed on getting a job done. This is not publicity but a clear sign that the times have changed. The people before were let go and charges dropped because we had a good ole boy sheriff who didn't do squat. Concerned citizen, crawl back under your rock. take an English class or buy a spell check before you come back out. You are clearly one of the good ole boys.

There is a huge drug problem in this county meth labs people selling our teenagers drugs.......good job speed and keep it up...youguys who think drugs are not a problem in banks county need to wake up and look around you. I graduated from banks county 13 years ago and meth was already a problem nothing has been done about it. I do believe that our courts need to do more but least the cops are now doing their part.
