A man was arrested Saturday after being on the run since Friday when Banks County deputies attempted to arrest him.
Banks County deputies responded to a hotel in the Banks Crossing area around 3:45 p.m. on Friday. Information had been obtained that William Andrew Towe, an absconded sex offender, was possibly residing at the hotel. When authorities arrived at the location, Towe fled the area on foot.
The Banks County K9 unit, with the assistance of the Lee Arrendale State Prison K9 Unit, searched for Towe on the ground while Georgia State Patrol Aviation Unit searched from the air. Towe was tracked to a business inside Jackson County but fled before authorities could detain him.
On Saturday at approximately 8:49 a.m., Banks County deputies gained information that Towe was possibly at a residence in Commerce. Deputies located Towe at the residence where he was taken into custody. Towe was then transported to Banks County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Center where he was charged with failure to register as a sex offender and obstruction of officers.
