Banks County Family Connection will help to make Christmas brighter for over 490 local kids.
Director Carol Williams reported at the monthly meeting on Monday that 491 kids would receive gifts this year as part of the annual Christmas give-away.
The gifts, along with a food box, will be distributed beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 19, at the Homer Fire Department.
Over $1,000 worth of food donated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be distributed during this Christmas season to needy residents of Banks County.
The food is being provided by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Bishop’s Storehouse. The Church operates Bishop Storehouses throughout the world.
Williams thanked Bishop Brad Day for his help with this project.
Gillsville Baptist Church members donated shoes for the give-away. On Dec. 13, the church collected the shoes and held a blessing of the shoes before Williams picked them up.
Sweet Dreams Mattress and Furniture donated mattresses to some needy families in the area, Williams said.
The Hayes Dealership in Baldwin provided Williams with a van to use, through Dec. 21, in the collection of the toys, shoes and other items for the needy.
Williams said she wanted to thank each individual, church, business or organization that contributed in any way to make this year’s event possible.
