The new sports complex in Banks County officially opened Saturday evening during a thunderstorm that hit the area just before festivities began.
Some of the events were not held due to the weather, including the first ball being thrown out by seniors on the Banks County High School baseball team and the ribbon cutting. However, some of the activities were held with guests gathered at the complex holding umbrellas during the heavy rain.
Board of commission chairman Jimmy Hooper spoke on the project and welcomed guests.
“This is a great day for Banks County,” he said. We are seeing history being made. Never before have we built a sports complex of this magnitude in Banks County. We’ve come a long way.”
