Make Hotel Indigo your headquarters as you explore area
BY ANGELA GARY
With a vibrant river front that makes a great location for strolls, power walks or jogging, a downtown filled with one-of-a-kind restaurants and boutique shops and a fun mix of entertainment options, Tuscaloosa, Ala., makes the perfect girlfriend get-away destination.
As soon as we arrived in town for a long weekend trip, we noticed how attractive and inviting the downtown area is. The downtown is lovely whether you are walking the streets checking out the shops or looking down on the area from the rooftop bar at Hotel Indigo, which is aptly named Lookout. On a recent Saturday night, a group of family and friends celebrating a 50th birthday, couples on dates and groups of friends socializing were all part of the mix at the Lookout, which is the only rooftop gathering spot in the city. Curtis and Owen were behind the bar making suggestions on which delicious concoction to try. Both indoor and outdoor seating are offered and we spent some time at both. The outdoor seating overlooks the majestic Black Warrior River and the lights of the city.
When we checked in at Hotel Indigo earlier in the day, Sheila, at the front desk, was so helpful in getting us settled and making suggestions on places to check out during our weekend visit. The décor at the boutique-style hotel is a perfect blend of modern décor with rustic touches. A 24-hour market adjacent to the front desk offers local items, including Daydream barbecue sauce, and snacks. Outside, red bicycles are offered at no charge for guests to hop on and check out the city.
