BOC approves changes to courthouse renovation project

Items approved included the following to Turner Construction:

•$4,065 to move and install a time capsule and cornerstone.

•$611 to upgrade the main water valve.

•$2,093 for flooring changes in the Superior Court, law library and Magistrate Court offices.

Three other requests from the construction company for additional funds for the project were denied. They were:

•$11,295 changing the carpet in the upstairs of the building to tile flooring.

•$17,376 for trimwork and molding in the courtroom. This recommendation was to change from a paint finish to a stained grade wood.

•closing windows in the civil courtroom. A price was not given for this recommendation.

OTHER BUSINESS

In other business at the meeting, the BOC:

•tabled action on a wrecker resolution until the February meeting. The BOC is considering a resolution that would put the sheriff’s office in charge of overseeing the wrecker ordinance, which is used to call wrecker businesses when vehicles are towed after wrecking or being involved in a wreck.

•agreed to replace a sheriff’s office patrol car that was involved in a wreck. The replacement vehicle will be purchased with insurance money from the person who hit the patrol car and caused the wreck.

•met in closed session for one hour to discuss land acquisition and personnel. No action was taken when the meeting was open to the public. The industrial development authority also met in closed session with the BOC.
