The Banks County Board of Commissioners approved $9,073 in changes to the courthouse renovation project in a called meeting on Feb. 4, but denied another requested $24,000 in changes.
Approved changes to the project were: $4,674 for hearing room cabinets; $162 for wall-mounted soap dispensers; $457 for wall/floor mounted hand rails; $952 for countertops; $687 for wood base in the vestibule; $478 for sallyport drywall; and $1,663 for soffit work.
The funds for these change orders will come out of Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) revenue, BOC member Rickey Cain said.
However, after the change orders were approved, it was agreed that these projects will be covered by contingency money from Turner Construction.
The board also denied several recommended changes to the project, including the following: $24,000 for installing a stained-grade wood chair rail and end caps on the jury box and judge’s bench in the courtroom; $9,752 to add a court reporter’s bench with power, counter and privacy area in two courtrooms; and $4,247 to replace the sinks and faucets at seven coffee stations in the courthouse.
No decision was made on changing the inside of the cab of the existing elevator. Jason Blevins, Otis Elevator, presented a price of $9,385 to change out the inside panels in the elevator, install new lighting and a new ceiling.
The board also discussed work on the cooling tower at the courthouse.
BOC member Joe Barefoot said, “The original plan was to utilize that tower. But it may need to be upgraded to make it more efficient.”
BOC chairman Milton Dalton said he would talk with Kenny Crumley, Banks County’s Maintenance Supervisor, about this.
