The Lula City Council agreed at Monday’s council meeting to allow the Historical Society to sell bricks for the Veterans Park.
Bricks will be available for purchase with the name of a loved one who has served in the military engraved on it.
Mayor Milton Turner said the Historical Society has agreed to take the proceeds from the brick sales and put the money into the building, known as the Poole building, next door to the Veterans Park. The Poole building is in need of repairs.
The city has given the Historical Society one year to get the Poole building repair project started.
Work is currently underway on the Veterans Park project. The city broke ground for this project in November, 2008. Some of the foundation and pipes for the fountain have been installed.
The council also discussed turning ownership of the Poole building over to the Downtown Development Authority and having them handle the lease with the Historical Society.
Turner said he would talk with the DDA about this and report back to the council at a later date.
