Gillsville residents will soon see work being done around the city. At Tuesday’s council meeting, the Gillsville City Council approved a bid of $350 from B & B Grading/Construction to install a two-board fence with walk-in gate around the septic tank area at the downtown buildings. Ancelot Construction also submitted a bid of $1,300 on this project.
The council also approved a bid from B & B Grading/Construction for $2,000 for work on the community park trail. B & B’s bid includes repairs to the drainage structure at the park.
Bids for this project were also received from: Cedar Creek Grading, $2,800, and Wiley Construction, $3,000.
At the suggestion of Mayor Larry Poole, the council put a hold on approving bids to install two restrooms at the downtown buildings.
Three bids have been received on this project. Sullen’s Plumbing/Payne Construction bid $8,065, Turpin’s Construction bid $8,450 and Ancelot Construction bid $11,969.
OTHER BUSINESS
In other business at Tuesday’s meeting:
•Poole reported the concept plan for the city’s 2006 and 2007 traffic enhancement grants has been approved. The plan can be viewed at city hall.
•Poole said there was no new information on the Highway 52 re-alignment project.
•the council unanimously approved a draft of the city’s flood control ordinance to be sent to the state for review.
•Poole said, according to a report from the North Georgia Regional Development Commission, Candler Creek doesn’t meet state standards for quality water. A meeting is being planned and the city has been asked to provide names of people to be included in this meetings. The council agreed to place the names of the property owners along the creek on the list.
•council member Todd Dale said he has initiated everything to move the city’s website from EarthLink to go-daddy.com. The site should be on line in the next few days, Dale added.
•Gillsville resident Pam Garrison said the company she is working with on a bid to re-do the city’s tennis courts brought to her attention that something is working its way up through the asphalt of the courts and this problem needs to be addressed before any work is done. Dale said he has contacted two companies asking them to take a look at the courts and place a bid on the work.
The next regularly scheduled Gillsville council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, at the city park building on County Line Road.
