Banks County Sheriff Charles Chapman released the total activity for the Banks County Sheriff’s Office for 2010 showing the following:

•39,768 case number assigned

•6,373 incident reports created

•1,510 cases opened for investigations

•1,123 cases closed by investigators

•1,206 civil process attempts

•380 subpoenas

•81 out-of-county warrants

•1,800 traffic citations issued

•685 accidents in Banks County

•420 accidents worked

•265 accidents worked by the Georgia State Patrol with BCSO assisting

•18 mental transports

•1,000 people booked into the Banks County Jail

Plenty of adventures to be found on Norwegian cruise to Caribbean

Maysville reaches agreement with doctor on use of building

The City of Maysville and Maysville Family Practice have reached a settlement in the year-long dispute resulting in a new lease agreement for the local business.

With the resolve, the old lease is now null and void and any claims and cross claims – such as attorney fees – are settled.

The new lease is in effect until Dec. 31. Dr. Gary Kinsey, the business owner, will pay $61.25 per month, which serves as reimbursement to the city for insurance premiums and lawn maintenance the city will incur. In addition, he will be responsible for paying utilities at the practice, which is located at 14 Homer Street. [Full Story »]

Baldwin mayor vetoes council action to investigate Parrish

Action by the Baldwin City Council to move forward with an investigation into the conduct of council member Jeff Parrish was vetoed by Mayor Jerry Neace on Friday.

Council members Beverly Holcomb and Rodney King have called for a special meeting to be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday to discuss the mayor’s veto. The Baldwin city charter allows the council 35 days to override the mayor’s veto. [Full Story »]

Illegal dumping among incidents reported last week

A report of illegal dumping on Old Gillsville Highway at Henderson Road, Gillsville, was among the incidents reported to the Banks County Sheriff’s Office during the past week. The complainant advised the responding deputy that sometime between Dec. 7 and Dec. 24 somebody came onto his property and dumped a pile of wire tubing. [Full Story »]

Playground organization formed

Banks County Kids at Play, Inc. has been established as a non-profit organization with a purpose of promoting the physical health and total wellness of the youth of Banks County. The initial project is to secure funds to purchase and install playground equipment at the elementary school.

Committee members are: Brandy White, Greta Carver, Patty Williams, Joe Leftwich, Herbert"Bo" Garrison, Carlton Speed and Jerry Loftice.
