Maysville council speaks out on beer/wine ordinance

All but one of the four members of the Maysville City Council declared Thursday night that they will listen to the majority of the people in their district when voting on whether beer and wine will be allowed to be sold in the small town that sits in both Jackson and Banks counties. And the mayor said he is opposed to the issue and, if it was up to him, the matter would not move forward.

More than 100 people attended three town hall meetings in Maysville Tuesday, Aug. 25, to air their concerns on the proposed sale of beer and wine in the town. The overwhelming majority were opposed to the idea. Only two people voiced support for the sale of beer and wine, while more than 50 people spoke in opposition to the proposed city ordinance.

County coroner dies; Fire trucks lead funeral procession through Homer

A long line of fire trucks and other emergency service vehicles from across North Georgia drove through Homer Tuesday afternoon in a funeral procession for Banks County coroner Henry Galloway. Galloway, 47, died after an extended illness. He was serving his second term as county coroner and had served on the Homer Fire Department for 32 years. [Full Story »]

‘Potential litigation’ discussed; BOC meets behind closed doors for four hours

The Banks County Board of Commissioners met in closed session for four hours Friday to discuss “potential litigation.” No action was taken when the meeting was open to the public. It has not been revealed who is threatening a lawsuit against the county but “potential litigation” has been discussed in several recent closed-door meetings.
