Seventeen years, while not a great amount of time in the grand scheme of things, does take a while to pass by.

For it has been 17 years since I began working in the journalism business as a professional. I could add years to that if I included the time I spent contributing to various publications during my college years, but it was a little more than 17 years ago when I was hired for the first time as a professional. In the middle of one of most hectic and stressful weeks in memory for me, I performed what I consider my patriotic duty last Thursday. I walked in, filled out some paperwork and within a few minutes had cast votes for the candidates of my choice in the 2010 primary. Who I voted for doesn’t matter for purposes of this column. To be honest, I had a very difficult time deciding who to vote for in some races and don’t think for a minute it was due to the fact I was overwhelmed with outstanding choices. [Full Story »]

The countdown to the primary election has now moved under a week. Candidates have been on the stump for months now doing their best to get their message to connect with voters. I’ve never been one to dwell on age. A favorite saying of mine is “you are as old as you are.” I’ve never found it necessary to lie about my age when a birthday rolls around. I say my year with pride. Recently, however, I have found myself thinking a little more about time and I guess that’s natural when you are now less than a year from being 40. [Full Story »]

As we observed Memorial Day earlier this week, I knew it was here. And while what we should be thankful for on Memorial Day is obviously more important, I can’t help but always think of summer truly being here once we arrive at this point.
