County schools make AYP

All four Banks County schools met the “Adequate Yearly Progress” (AYP) goals for the past year. The results were announced Tuesday by the Georgia Department of Education and the county’s primary school, elementary school, middle school and high school all met the AYP guidelines.

Bus drivers speak out against pay cut

More than 40 people attended a Banks County Board of Education meeting Wednesday night (April 1) on a proposal to cut employee salaries. Four people spoke with two being bus drivers who asked that their salaries not be cut and pointed out that they are already “the lowest on the totem pole.”

The Banks County Board of Education named Jason McNabb as technology director for the school system at Monday’s, Nov. 17, monthly meeting. The approval came after a brief closed session to discuss personnel and appeals for out of county students.

Banks County High School’s 2008 SAT scores dropped from the previous year by 70 points but school system officials are asking for a recalculation on the basis of what they believe to be errors in how the average was compiled.
