Banks Countians will go to the polls Tuesday to cast their choice for president, as well as decide on state races and local issues. With one month of early voting held for the first time ever, a record number of voters — almost 2,000 — have already cast a ballot.

Banks County Voter Registrar Andra Phagan said as of Tuesday morning a total of 426 people had taken advantage of the early voting.

Smith wins District Attorney contest

Brad Smith will be the new District Attorney of the Piedmont Judicial Circuit. Although Donna Sikes carried Banks County, Smith took Jackson and Barrow counties to win the post. In Banks County, the results were: Donna Sikes 637, Brad Smith 490 For more details, see this week's Banks County News.

Months of hand shaking, mass mailings and speaking at forums will all come down to one day for local candidates.
Voters in Banks County will go to their respective polling places next Tuesday between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. and cast their ballots during the July 15 primary election.
