No doubt the debate on George Bush’s presidency will go on for generations.

There are extremes on both sides of the argument. Many believe he was the greatest thing since sliced bread and would have quickly ushered him in for a third term if given the opportunity.

I am writing this before Tuesday’s runoff election here in our state, so I don’t know how those final three races turned out. (I know how I would have liked for them to turn out, but that’s another issue).

Banks Countians will go to the polls Tuesday to cast their choice for president, as well as decide on state races and local issues. With one month of early voting held for the first time ever, a record number of voters — almost 2,000 — have already cast a ballot.

Banks County Voter Registrar Andra Phagan said as of Tuesday morning a total of 426 people had taken advantage of the early voting.

Brad Smith will be the new District Attorney of the Piedmont Judicial Circuit. Although Donna Sikes carried Banks County, Smith took Jackson and Barrow counties to win the post. In Banks County, the results were: Donna Sikes 637, Brad Smith 490 For more details, see this week's Banks County News.
