The Maysville City Council continues to work on its 2009 budget, with the goal of approving it at its Dec. 1 meeting. The council will meet at 7 p.m. at the Maysville Public Library.
The Banks County Board of Education named Jason McNabb as technology director for the school system at Monday’s, Nov. 17, monthly meeting. The approval came after a brief closed session to discuss personnel and appeals for out of county students.
Facing an income shortfall due to declining demand, the Maysville City Council is considering a 40 percent hike in water fees. The current minimum average bill of $14.50 per month would jump to $20.30 under the plan.
A $14,600 deposit is missing from the Banks County Tax Commissioner’s office and the matter is under investigation by the sheriff’s office. Sheriff Charles Chapman said on Monday that Tax Commissioner Margaret Ausburn filed a report with his office on November 5 about the missing deposit.
The Banks County Board of Commissioners paved the way for hiring an economic director last week, although a time frame for hiring someone has not been discussed publicly.
