The Banks County Planning Commission received some support from a Banks County resident Tuesday night. County resident Melinda Cochran told the Banks County Board of Commissioners she hoped the BOC would not abolish the planning commission as has been discussed.

The Banks County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday night to deny a request for a conditional use permit to locate a flea market in the former location of Craven’s Pottery. Last week, the Banks County Planning Commission recommended that the request from Barrow 141 on 316, LLC to locate a flea market at 100 Pottery Drive be denied.

It was a changing of the guard Thursday night, as a new mayor and council member, as well as a returning council member, were sworn in. Jerry Neace was sworn in as mayor to replace Mike Kelley. New council member Jeff Parrish was sworn in to replace Ray Holcomb. Robert Bohannon was sworn in to serve another term.

A special election will be held in March to fill two seats on the Gillsville City Council. The election will be held to fill the positions of mayor, now held by Larry Poole, and two council seats, currently held by Tim House and Roy Turpin.
