Baldwin mayor vetoes council action to investigate Parrish

Action by the Baldwin City Council to move forward with an investigation into the conduct of council member Jeff Parrish was vetoed by Mayor Jerry Neace on Friday.

Council members Beverly Holcomb and Rodney King have called for a special meeting to be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday to discuss the mayor’s veto. The Baldwin city charter allows the council 35 days to override the mayor’s veto. [Full Story »]

Baldwin administrator Jerry Presley has called for an investigation of one of the city council members, claiming that he has tried to force city employees to take sides in a political dispute.

Presley claims that Jeff Parrish has “on repeated occasion issued direct threats and other acts of intimidation against city employees in an effort to coerce them into choosing sides in the ongoing political disputes among the city council.” [Full Story »]

Snow was reported in parts of Banks County Saturday evening bringing a white Christmas to North Georgia for the first time in decades.

Playground organization formed

Banks County Kids at Play, Inc. has been established as a non-profit organization with a purpose of promoting the physical health and total wellness of the youth of Banks County. The initial project is to secure funds to purchase and install playground equipment at the elementary school.

Committee members are: Brandy White, Greta Carver, Patty Williams, Joe Leftwich, Herbert"Bo" Garrison, Carlton Speed and Jerry Loftice.

Homer to seek grant funds to finish fire department

Homer’s fire department might be completed better than the original plans called for if the city receives a grant from USDA Rural Development.

The Homer City Council approved submitting an application to the USDA to complete the fire department which was stopped short of final completion of the plans after the Department of Corrections withdrew inmate labor from the city. Labor from inmates completed a large section of the work on the project. [Full Story »]
