The Banks County Sheriff’s Office shut down a business Monday after an undercover officer allegedly purchased an illegal drug. Sam’s Food Mart at Banks Crossing was closed after an undercover officer purchased a “smoking tobacco which has been categorized as a schedule 1 narcotic,” which is illegal in the state of Georgia and is a felony,” according to Banks County Sheriff Charles Chapman. Donations needed for holiday meals for seniors

The Banks County Senior Citizen’s Center is seeking donations to provide home-delivered meals to seniors during the holiday season.
The cost for providing meals is as follows: $3.45 for one day; $17.25 for one week; $75.90 for one month; $894.96 for one year. All donations are tax deductible. [Full Story »]

BOC lifts hiring freeze for two positions

The Banks County Board of Commissioners lifted the hiring freeze at a meeting last Tuesday to allow for two employees to be hired.
The action will allow an economic director to be hired, as well as a part-time staff member in the technology department. The hiring freeze will remain in place for any other positions. [Full Story »]

A ruling has not been issued yet in the lawsuit over alleged election violations in Banks County. A hearing was held Wednesday, Nov. 10, on the lawsuit filed by six Banks County residents over election violations that they believe occurred. Alcovy Circuit Judge W. Kendall Wynne Jr. proceeded over the all-day hearing at the Banks County courthouse. [Full Story »]
