I tried searching for a clever quote to put at the beginning of this column but I simply couldn’t find the right one.

Sometimes it’s hard to find the right phrase to sum up what you are saying — especially when those words were spoken by someone else. So I decided for this column I would skip the opening quote I use at times and simply let the words flow from my pen, or keyboard as it were.

I’ve always loved a good conspiracy theory.

One of my favorite radio shows in fact is the overnight talk show “Coast to Coast AM” which on any given night features topics ranging from UFOs, bigfoot, the true story of 9-11, the JFK assassination, colonies on the moon and the like. It’s the perfect show to air in the early morning hours, I’ve always said. [Full Story »]

In many ways it did my ever aging heart good to see average citizens rally for a cause, any cause, last week.

Americans, by nature, are lazy, especially when it comes to politics. It happens to all of us. We get too accustomed to the good life. I’ve long said most people don’t follow politics enough. [Full Story »]

‘Crossover Day’ observed in session

Last Thursday marked the 30th legislative day of the 2009 session. Known as “Crossover Day,” it marked the deadline for legislation to pass at least the House or Senate. Any legislation that did not pass either body will be considered again next session. Because of the “Crossover Day Deadline,” this week was filled with long days full of key votes as we deliberated different bills that would cut taxes, stimulate the economy, fund trauma care or even offer our students greater educational opportunities. An extended stretch of illness left me homebound several consecutive days last week. In between bouts of sleeping multiple hours at a time, I found myself overcome with a combination of restlessness, boredom and soreness (from constant coughing and laying in the bed for too long).
